I did a bit a research and it looks like the odds, or really the probability, is not as low as I thought. I looked at the "birthday paradox" as an example. Birth dates and death dates are interchangeable in my mind because everyone has one of each.

So... if you have 367 people in a room it is 100% certain that at least 2 of them will have the same birth date because there are only 365 days in a year (leap years excluded). The birthday paradox states (calculates) that with only 70 people the probability is 99.9% that at least 2 people will share the same birthday and the probability is 50% with only 20 people. With a fairly large family I guess the probability is high that 2 people will share a birth date (or a death date). The fact that the two people who share a death date in this instance happen to be my grandfathers makes the calculations way beyond my math skills, so I will just stick with "it's weird".
