Why Online Casinos sometimes Request Cashout Documents May 31st, 2009

Why it's necessary to submit "Documents" for a cashout.
For those of you who love to play at the online casino's but hate to send in those "requested documents" you may want to look at the other side of the reasoning. I myself find it tedious at the very least! After all, everywhere we play it's easy enough for them to take our money without a second thought but when we want to cashout we have to "scan" and "copy", "upload" and "email" and it really can be a pain in the backside! BUT, I think we should take a look at the other side.

Online gambling sites have no way of actually knowing you are you, let alone knowing that you are of legal age to play those games. As posted in an article I found at "Be Web Aware"
In a 2005 Media Awareness Network (MNet) survey of students' Internet habits, 23 per cent of male students in Grades 10 and 11 report having visited a gambling site in the past school year. Most gambling sites only require a major credit card, which many university and even high school students possess.

According to Internaional Centre for Youth Gambling Problems and High-Risk Behaviours, 2004
Adolescents are two to four times more likely than adults to become problem gamblers.

I personally think that the very few casino's and gaming sites that do not require the necessary documents for you to prove that you are of legal age to play at thier site are being irresponsible and providing an open door for kids who DO gamble online.

There is also the need for the casino or gaming site to make sure that you are you and no one else has obtained your credit card thus using a stolen credit card for online gambling. So instead of getting upset and frustrated about submitting your documents when you are lucky and want to "cashout", try just sending them in before you make your first deposit at your choice of online casinos. Be sure to do your research about where you are playing and thier reputation first so you know that if you win, you will get paid.

TDTAT,
I hear what you're saying and documenting who you are is important. A statement you made is true, though, it is frustrating when they take your money with no documentation but won't pay you without it. If the casino consistently takes money from your credit card with no questions asked, it is hard to understand why they won't return it with no questions being asked, if you win it back.
If you are fraudulent then the only way they'll know is if you provide documents? I don't think so.
I am sure it's legal requirement somehow, to protect themselves, or according to their laws or whatever, but if that's the case they should verifiy who people are from the get go. Not that I want them to, as that would really be a pain!! lol

Thanks E1!!! Yes, it's a hassle to provide doc's... BUT..IMO It does need to be done. That statistic was from 2005!! that's almost 1 in 4 10th & 11th graders!!

The number of casinos or poker rooms that DONT required documents are VERY FEW but.. they are online!! Personally I think it's wrong to give any kid an open door to gamble online, but it is happening. So yes I do think they should request documents prior to a deposit. But my thinking so isn't going to make them change!! I wish!!

You don't??!! I do... how is it they will find out you ARE fraudulent IF they DONT ask for anything?
Thank you all for your input and comments!! they are greatly appreciated!! ]

The fact is receiving documents via email or fax doesn't prove anything you can get those documents online. My sister had to fax a copy of her SS card for her bank account and did not have access to a scanner so she found an usable image of a SS card and copy and pasted her way through. She wasn't trying to defraud anyone she just needed to get it done and she did. The fact is any copy of any document can be doctered.

phxren, Hi, That is probably true with any documents, whether faxed or not. Soon we will all probably have to do fingerprints, blood tests, or eye scans. smile

Yes same opinion here its not good for kids to play online casinos so documentation needs to be done in every casino.

What i can't understand is that when u deposit using your my-wallet account and win, why cant they put it back in your my-wallet account where it came from withoiut docs. I am trying to get my 800.00 winnings from tropica right now and i just moved to Md. from Utah. They want Id and proof of address like a phone bill or bank statement.Thats cool cause I have that now but my DL id is from my old address and i only have a copy of it on line cause all of my stuff was destroyed in fire in Utah. I still cant get Md. Id cause I am waiting for a Birth certificate to come to me. I cashed out of another casino thru my wallet with out docs what is wrong with Tropica? If anyone has any sug's please reply.

vickster22, Hi! They have to verify your address and identity to comply with money laundering laws, to verify no one under age is playing, for security, and to protect themselves.

Some casinos requests the documents for every player and some randomly select a certain percentage of all players. It states in their rules that they will ask for these things. Just because you made a cash out from somewhere without docs, does not mean they will never ask for them.

I am sorry you do not have your new documents yet, but the casinos have to verify names, age, and addresses.. that is the way things work.

If no casinos asked for this documentation they would be accused of allowing under age players, not complying with their licensing laws, allowing identity theft, and would loose millions of dollars to fradulent players.

Requiring documents is really not an issue. I also understand the safety in these requests. With the alleged fear of money laundering, identity theft, age, and all the rest of the unfortunate scams that come with cyberspace, some could be more patient prior to negative posting concerning these issues.
