The
BBC reports that a team of over 50 archeologists have unearthed a trove of artifacts from an ancient Roman cemetery near Aylesbury, in southeast England, as part of work on the new HS2 high-speed railway. Over a one year period, the team made many exciting discoveries including lead dice, which is evidence of gambling. Other notable finds included beheaded skeletons, 1200 coins, brooches, spoons, ceramic jars, and evidence of brewing.
Roman Buckinghamshire sounds like a fun place to be a few thousand years ago, as long as you did not end up in the decapitated group, which was about 10% of the remains found. Surely, the lead die and the beheadings were unrelated.
