My young, newlywed niece was hosting her first family Thanksgiving. We all brought side dishes and she cooked her first turkey. There was about 25 of us, sitting and standing around the table. Her proud new hubby was carving the big, beautifully browned bird. As he got to the thigh and pulled it off, he reached into the cavity and pulled out a gray, soggy, dripping bag...the notorious giblets. Still not knowing what the bag contained, my horrified niece screamed: "Oh, no, there's a baby turkey" ! The laughter was explosive. That was almost 20 years ago and my niece is no longer with us but the story is lovingly told every family Thanksgiving, and we feel she is there with us, laughing and remembering our families favorite holiday story.

My first turkey... To think I was in my younger years when I did this........28..maybe
Yes I am admitting to this
I wanted to chip in more than just be bringing drinks for myself one Thanksgiving so I bouught a turkey and fixing for stuffing. Helped my mom so much growing up ...after getting over the rawnes and digging for insides ya throw it in baste every hour...check temp. Make sure the button pops s d used my own thermometer to double check. Well I'll be dammed if the button popped up and hit 180 degrees...but to he thigh legs areas were down at 120--150 ish
. So I pry off the dam plastic thing holding the legs together and dam there is a bag of ...what....ewwwewww mom never told me where them giblets came from when she made my dad his special gravy....
Well here ya go dad a bag of giblets...I don't make gravy!!!
Rest in peace Mom!!
Can't wait to see you again. You were the best frirnd ever!!
