On christmas eve our dinner for as long as i have been alive my entire family aunts uncles cousins alike, enjoy a bountiful dinner served upon lavish place settings with crystal stemware, linen table clothes and napkins the whole nine yards Then we feast upon GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICHES and slices of apples. Sounds crazy right, But this time honored tradition has been going on since 1929 my grandparents had just married the 29th of December 1928 and My grandfather, the minister of a small local church. As Some of you may or may not know that the minister and his family are completely supported solely through offerings of the members. To make a long story short 1929 was a very hard year for all Americans and my grandparents near starving were given these wonderful gifts, an apple, 1/2 loaf bread a chunk of cheese, along with 1/4 lb. of butter and about a quart of milk from the church members 2 days before Christmas with very little in the cupboards they saved this meal to celebrate our Christs birth, This touched my grandparents so; that the members under such financial strain themselves would give from their own cupboards and kitchens, So to honor the members of the 1st Methodist Church of Christ in Gardenia California for their generosity in the face of adversity my grandparents ate the meal they were able to put together their 1st Christmas together for the rest of their lives and even now that they have passed on now some 30 years we honor that tradition as a constant and humbling reminder of how blessed we are just as they felt their 1st Christmas. I for one love this tradition and savor every bite of my grilled cheese sandwich and apple slices. the kids they think us old folks are crazy but never complain about the menu and all are eager to eat.

our christmas eve tradition
i remember having a great christmas every year untill i was 10 we had everything ready the tree decorated the house and outside decorated cookies baked ,the whole nine yards
but when i was 10 my dad passed away
i have 4 sisters and brothers
2 of which were also young and two young adults
so things began to get a litttle more crazy especially around the holidays
and especially since he died on oct 27th so that is less then 2 months before christmas
that year in 1992 we started some new traditions because we had too
i barley remember that christmas i know it was just so different and we didnt end up getting a tree untill around 10:00 pm on christmas eve and we had trouble getting it up and it was so late that we ended up just leaving it bear and going to bed
nothing was done no decorations no cookies we had a small christmas eve dinner and my older brother came to stay with us that year and we all worked together to try to make it enjoyable even though it was so hard on all of us and we were so young
well when i went to bed well past midnight in the wee hours of the morning my mom looked so tired and worn out and nothing was done the tree was up but empty well low and behold when i woke up in the morning the tree was decorated the house decorated too gifts were wrapped and under the tree cookies baked and my mom half asleep on the couch drinking alot of coffee
when we asked how all of it got done she said santas elves came and did it
so since then we have had a new tradition of waiting till the last miniute to do everything and mom being up all night christmas eve drinking coffee
since then we have became the elves that help her christmas eve
although i try to do things a little different with my family my daughters and i have special ordaments we put up and decorate the tree early
every year we write our letters to santa and a week or so later
i send them a letter back from santa with a cute pic of him and mrs clause from santa from the north pole
on christmas eve we read the night before christmas and say our prayers
and i remind them that we are celebrating the birth of christ
and that is the real meaning of christmas and when they go to bed i sneak all the gifts under the tree and i take a cookie tray full of baby powder and my big snow boots and i make white footprints all the way to the tree then i eat some of the cookies and milk and leave a cute little thank you and reminder to be good note
the whole time drinking alot of coffee
they have gotten really excited and fell for it hook line and sinker the past couple years but they are only 4 and 5 years old so i dont think this will be so believable when they are 15 and 16

My family has a tradition of everyone getting together on Christmas eve and having a nice meal together. Depending on the weather, we will go out to the neighbors and sing Christmas carols. Happy Holidays!

Christmas Eve we all gather our gifts up and head over to mom's house..all 8 of us kids with our spouses and kids..and if the kids are old enough their kids !!..needless to say, it's a hugeeeeeeeeeee gathering..we start about 6..have a few cocktails..eat tons of food (we all bring a dish) but not turkey..we then open gifts and we usually end up playing with the kids toys..they're so much fun..around midnight we haul our overstuffed bodies home..where on Christmas day we usually have just enough time to open our gifts at home then get ready and head back over to mom's for the traditional turkey dinner..later in the day everyone separates and goes to their inlaws
We have a big family so it's pretty hectic over the holidays for everyone...I look forward to christmas but I sure love it when they're over..only time to kick back and relax...lol
HAPPY HOLIDAYS NOLUCKERS !!!!

We have the same Christmas traditions as when we were kids....only now we are grown and have kids of our own
So, on Christmas Eve, we head over to my parents' house, put on the old records, and Mom/Grandma whips up a batch of egg nog. Everyone gathers around and we read the same poem every year "Twas the Night Before Jesus Came". After that, a prayer is offered....and then....PRESENTS!
Then, on Christmas Day, we gather with friends and all the kids bring their new toys and spend the day playing.
Merry Christmas eveyone!

2 nights before christmas I spend by myself on the couch under the blankets with my lil dog (gracie) and listen to a CD of the original Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.
(A 1939 radio classic starring Lionel Barrimore and Orson Wells.) and drink hot choclate and fall asleep by the fire. Well ok "Fall alseep by the heater" I wish I had a fire place. It sounded so much better. But it is a very special me time thing I do every year.
On Christmas Eve it's off to Mom's House to make Egg Nog, Hot Mexican Cheese Dip and Tamales. And Pies and Cakes. And then dress the turkey, start the stuffing and and other fixins for the Christmas day. On
Christmas Eve we pig out big time!
Then on Christmas Day we pig out even more and that morning tear the house up with wrapping paper. There is so much wrapping paper we all get burried under it.We used to love that when we were kids and now my Nieces and Nephews do it!
The day after Christmas is my brothers birthday so we eat out at a fancy expensive resteraunt.
The 2nd day after Christmas we all gather again to eat the left overs. One thing we always do is strip the Turkey and mix it with the .stuffing, mashed potatoes and vegetables and pour it all into a couple of pie crust and bake them. It's just like Shepards Pie! YUMMMMMMMMMMY!!!
After all this we fight like cats and dogs all the rest of the year.

We take the kids to candy cane lane christmas eve to see all the christmas lights, and while we are gone santa comes, so when we get back the kids believe that santa was there and they get there gifts from santa.
