honestly i think everyone should put aside half for gas money, seriously it is going to get higher and higher this summer

I agree!!

I hate to say it, and I hate to preach, but soaring gas prices are the only
way to slap American consumers in the face and therefore
make the car companies and big businesses CHANGE.

Europeans have been paying over $10 a gallon for years
and they drive smaller cars and have great trains and public
transportation. There are no V6s in Europe smile

We must break our oil addiction.... smile

Half? HALF? Ken thinks we need to put it all away for GAS!!!! He thinks (knows) he is going to his annual PACKERS game this fall and a visit to our son and GAS is NOT going to keep him from going!!!! smile

Again.. it is all advertising. Gas, oil, and american car giants
have convinced us that we must drive the largest vehicle possible
or the fastest, coolest, most gas guzzling car to be a true American..
AND TO BE SAFE smile

Our personal identity's are rooted in what car you drive.. it is absurd
when you really think of it. smile

How true. That's why we still drive our 1998 Ford Windstar!!! It has been kept up and always had it's routine maintenance etc. We take it everywhere we go.

They had me convinced too.. We are overwhelmed and inundated in
the US with advertising and fear advertising.

I had no idea this was not normal until I went to Europe
and saw that they have 2 minutes of commericals compared
to our 7-8 per half hour tv show. They do not sell by making
you scared of everything either.

A person's character is judged by their knowledge, cultural abilites,
and personality and not by their car or what they happen to own.

What a shocker this was to a naive American who was
proud to always buy and consume the "new thing".. drive
the new V6.. smile conserve? What is conserve? I wondered.

well, if i was going to be real about what i was doing with my refund, it is really quite boring, first i am paying for sons graduation party(who by the way i do not get extra credit for because he is 17, don't get me started on the load of crap i think that is lol), then i am paying for other son's drivers ed( which is outragously expensive now), then i am paying some on my credit card bill, and the rest which will be about 50 bucks is going to the casino with me and hubby smile

Geez, guess I really started something!! smile

Mike and I need a new TV - well, we need a flat screen - we still have the diagnal kind -and with the HDTV thing - its time to update.

This gas thing is out of control and the oil companies are showing record profits AGAIN - but we lay down and take it ( you know where) - its sickening. We are already paying $3.79 in Milwaukee - by summer - who knows. We traveled to Iowa this weekend for Mike's daughter's wedding, rented a car and paid $150 for gas for 700 miles round trip. One-hundred-and-fifty-dollars!!! That really cut into my gambling money smileops:

Groceries are crazy expensive -

We, as Americans, are sooooo screwed!!

TDTAT, I agree with you totally. A dear friend of mine taught me a a few year ago, how wasteful I was being by having a walk in closet full of clothes. He was going to europe and he had such a small suitcase. He said all he need was a few pair of jeans couple shirts and his suit. This was a well dress man by the way. He said american's over do it on everything. We always want more... This was true in my case. Not do we over do it on spending but it creates clutter. I have since than really tried to cut back. I am very thankful to him for waking me up.....

The whole idea of any of us getting this extra money is to stimulate the economy! That's exactly what they want us to do, go out and BLOW IT ALL on things we don't NEED. TDTAT is right, no one should allow a commercial or any other form of enticement encourage them. Use this money wisely, pay bills and SAVE!!! There is nothing wrong with using some of it for entertainment etc., it's only natural! For myself I plan on some entertainment, some for GAS for my PACKERS game this fall (50 yd. line here I come) and will probably SAVE the rest for a rainy day or emergency, whichever comes first!!
